In order to keep your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.littletondentalstudio.com\/preventive-dentistry.html\">oral\nhealth<\/a> in good shape, a dentist is here to share five tips. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Use a Nutcracker, Not Your Teeth <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though the protein in nuts can make your teeth stronger,\nit\u2019s not a good idea to test that strength by shelling nuts with your pearly\nwhites. The hard surface of the nut shells can seriously damage your teeth and\ngums and may even crack your teeth. Your best bet is to safely shell nuts before\neating them. Use a nutcracker. Its purpose is right there in the name. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Pass on Chewy Snacks <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll most likely attend a holiday party with platters full\nof sticky treats, like caramel and taffy. These items can easily pull out fillings\nand dental crowns. Furthermore, they linger on your tooth enamel and attract\nbacteria that cause tooth decay and gum disease. It\u2019s best to steer clear of\nthese kinds of treats, or at least eat them with other non-sticky snacks to prevent\nthem from sticking to your pearly whites. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Don\u2019t Use Your Teeth as Tools <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your teeth are not the right tools for ripping open that carefully\nwrapped present from Grandma. Opening a bottle cap with your teeth is also not\na good idea. Both of these activities can crack your teeth, requiring a crown\nor possibly even a root canal to treat. Save your teeth the trouble and use scissors\nor a bottle opener instead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Avoid Chewing on Ice Cubes or Hard Candy <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another way to keep your teeth from getting cracked this\nholiday season is to not chew on hard candy or ice cubes. Let the hard candy\nslowly dissolve in your mouth. If you\u2019re finishing up your holiday cocktail,\nlet the ice melt without chewing on it. In fact, it\u2019s best to avoid these items\naltogether. Ice can cause sensitive teeth, and sucking on hard candies bathes\nyour teeth in sugar and promotes tooth decay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Quit Biting Your Nails <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While the holidays can be anxiety-inducing, you should learn\nto manage your stress in healthier ways than biting your fingernails. This\nhabit is detrimental for both your nails and your teeth. Nail biting has been\nlinked to sensitive teeth, jaw clenching, teeth grinding, and jaw problems. If\nyou get the urge to bite your nails, pop in a piece of sugar-free gum instead.
