Children’s Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings
Our primary goal with every child at their first appointment is to make sure they feel comfortable, so we’ll start things by giving them a quick tour of the dental office so they can meet our friendly team and become more acclimated to their surroundings. Then, Dr. Beasley will give them a gentle exam. Depending on your child’s age, they may also receive a cleaning from one of our hygienists. At each appointment, we’ll keep an eye out for cavities and work to address problems as soon as they pop up to prevent future headaches.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are an excellent way to protect the most vulnerable parts of your child’s smile: the chewing surfaces of their back teeth. Most children will develop cavities here because their grooved surfaces easily trap plaque, and their location makes them quite tricky for little hands to clean. Fortunately, we can literally seal off this part of the teeth from plaque and bacteria using a thin layer of composite resin. Sealants only take minutes to apply, the procedure is completely painless, and they can easily provide round-the-clock cavity prevention for about 10 years.
Silver Diamine Fluoride
For children with an active cavity, SDF enables our team to treat it quickly and gently without having to use the dental drill, which our little patients certainly appreciate! Applied to the tooth as a liquid, the silver quickly kills the bacteria that is damaging the enamel while the fluoride strengthens it at the same time, protecting the surrounding teeth in the process. It’s also an excellent way to help children dealing with excessive dental sensitivity.
